RETREAT!!!!

Ok, so there are no youth events scheduled until Jan 2....otherwise known as the Cornerstone Youth Winter Retreat!

We need to know who is going, and we need your forms (with health card copy) and money BEFORE the retreat! Here are possible times to get that to us.

1. Wed 24th Nate and I will be at church. We will also be at the evening service at 7:00.

2. Sunday, morning (28th).

3. Leave it at the church in my mailbox or Nate's mailbox before Sunday the 28th.

4. I will be seeing some of you in between those times, that would be fine too!

Ok.....so that gives you options. If you plan on coming and we don't yet have your money, can you at least message me or email me so we can estimate numbers!

Great. So make sure you know when to be where. (church at 1:00 on Friday, Jan 2nd), and have your talents ready to go...I hear some people are already rehearsing their talents. Ooooo...and be ready to be on your game for some ping pong action, some puzzle action, and some tubing action. I can't wait. Maybe Nate will injure himself again this year.

If you have ANY questions (or if your parents have questions), please don't hestitate to call us. Rachel (905)328-4007 or Rachel or Nate at church on Wed. (905)468-7155.

Hey guys, this will be short and sweet. We're back at the Southridge Shelter this Friday. That means be at the church at 5:00, or meet at the shelter around 5:45. Like last time, we'll be sticking around for a bit after dinner, so have in mind what you might want to do with some of the residents. Bring along a deck of cards, or a game if you want. We will most likely be playing volleyball or badminton, so be prepared to do that, or just hanging out with the residents is cool too.

Have rides pick you up at church at 9:00. See you then!

(ps. don't forget to be at church at 10:00 Saturday morning if you're coming to the parade!)

Friday

Ok, so things are switched up a bit this week. We are going to the Southridge Homeless Shelter to serve a meal and check out how things are done over there. We need to be there at 5:45 so we all need to meet at church at 5:00. I repeat 5:00!!!! Let us know if you can't make it by then, and we'll meet up with you in St. Catharines, or figure something out!

While we're there, we'll be preparing, serving and cleaning up dinner, and eating with some of the residents at the shelter. Afterwards, someone that works at the shelter will be telling us some more info about the shelter. We'll come back to the church and be here until 9:00. Rides can pick you up then.

Shoebox Shopping!!!

It's almost that time again! Yep, you guessed it, Friday.

This Friday we will be heading to the mall (that is the Pen Centre), to put together shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. There will be a twist as to the 'rules' of the shopping and what to get, and how much to spend!

Everyone needs to bring $5.00. We hope you are all ok with this, as designating it as a donation to the organization. If you want to know more about it, or have never done a shoebox, check out www.samaritanspurse.org. If the money is a problem, let us know, but don't let that stop you from coming and help shop!

Please be at the church at 7:30 SHARP! We'll be leaving right away (no later than 7:45)! Rides can pick you up at Nate Voogts house at 11:00. (directions to follow).

See you soon!

This Friday!

What's up everybody so glad you're here,
It's Rachel Peters with the flow back in your ear.
I ain't the fantastic four, but I'm still on a mission,
To see if I can get your attention...
Now I'd like to drop some information,
Just a little attitude for your education.

This Friday, we will be participating in Hallowe'en festivities! But instead of mooching off all of the neighbours, we'll be going door to door giving out candy and invitations to church/youth/sunday school at Cornerstone. Then, Onesfore from Burundi will be speaking with us about spiritual warfare. We'll head over to the Dyck's house for the end of the night.

Your rides can drop you off at the church at 7:00 and pick you up from the Dyck's at 10:30. They live on 29 Grange Crescent. (905) 468-7364.

See you Friday.

Special props for anyone who can identify the above song without cheating.

Hay Ride!

Ok, as you all know, this Friday is the hayride!!! (i'm sure you've all lost sleep due to the extreme excitement and anticipation...). Anyways, there are a few details you need to know before you show up.

1. The hayride starts at 7:30 at the Rowaan's (962 Line 8).

2. We'll be having a time of worship/singing together and a special guest speaker will be sharing with us. Then we'll be off to the hay wagons. We'll be back for snacks and some hanging out time and then the evening will end at 10:30/11:00.

3. Please bring $2.00 to help cover the costs of hay/snacks etc.

4. We want everyone to enjoy the evening and to be safe, so make sure you are being considerate of others. No one is to chase/attack/go after anyone they do not know, anyone of the opposite gender, or anyone who does not want to be involved in any hay 'activities'. There will be one wagon at the front of the caravan designated for those who wish to remain on the wagon for the entire ride, and stay dry, warm and hay-free.

5. There won't be any washrooms, so make sure you go before you come (don't I sound like a mom...)

Hope you guys are excited. Again, if there are any questions, or if you need a ride or directions, message us or give us a ring.

Seeeeee you soooooon!

Message from Bri and the GUS girls

This week I think that we'll have Bible Study at my house, because youth is at Brian and Erin's. It will probably be at 5:30 because of the PA day. So here's the deal:
- at my house
- 5:30 pm
- remember to bring all of your pot luck stuff

Talk to you later!

Bri

Monday, October 6, 2008

I know it's only Monday....

Alright. I know it's early in the week, and most of you probably are still waking up from the weekend, but we want to give you a big HEADS UP for Friday!

This Friday is our first potluck of the year! Erin and Brian Rowaan (who some of you may know...) have invited us to their home to test out our potlucking skills! We will be spending the evening at their house.

Soooo.....some of you may be wondering, what does this potluck entail?!? Well, have no fear, attached is a list of suggestions. We don't want anyone to worry or stress about what to bring, or think that they need to ask their mother to make a rack of lamb or roast duck. All you need to do is bring a dish of something for about 6-8 people. Show up with your food at 7:00 at Brian and Erin's. We will be hanging out, eating, and probably playing some games, so feel free to bring some games!

We are really enjoying meeting early for a time of prayer, so remember that you are all welcome to join us before youth (6:30 this time! at Brian and Erin's). If you want to share prayer requests, or pray for others, or even just to sit in and be there during the prayer time, come on out!

K, here's the details. Brian and Erin live on Line 8, number 962 (coming from Virgil, on Creek Rd., turn left on Line 8, their driveway is on the left, just a minute down the road). Their number is (905)262-1859. Have your rides pick you up their at 10:00-10:30.

Lastly, here are some tasty potluck suggestions. feel free to be more creative if you so choose. remember, it's a bunch of youth, like yourselves, lets not be picky or go crazy if we don't want too, we love food, all sorts! It would be great if you messaged or posted what you are bringing to help inspire people, and so we have no repeats!

- salad (any kind, pasta, green, fruit, bean, jello)
- dips with bread, veggies, crackers, pitas, nachos, etc. (ie. hummus, artichoke, spinach, onion)
- chicken wings
- meatballs
- cheese! everyone loves cheese!
- pizza
- a big tub of chili
- cooked veggies
- potatoes of any kind (mashed, boiled, fried, etc.)
- fancy sandwiches
- garlic bread
- a shrimp ring (don't forget the seafood sauce)
- a big steak (we'll cut it up and each have a bite)
- mini sausage rolls
- shishkabobs (oooh, that could be fun for the creative types!)
- cold cuts and cheese with buns
- the possibilities are ENDLESS!!!

Let us know if you need more details, or a ride, or anything! See you Friday. I'm already excited for this!

Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Roastin' on the Niv

Ok, so here's the deal for this Friday. We'll be at Nate Dirk's house for the evening. If you would like to join us for prayer (everyone is welcome, it was great last week starting the evening praying for each other and for youth!), show up at 7:00. Otherwise, the evening will commence at 7:30. We will be chillin' around the campfire (in true smurf fashion), roasting various items, and talking about some of the revolutionary ideas we have for youth this year.

Nate lives at 258 Niven Rd. NOTL. His number is (905)468-8809 if you get lost or need directions.

Because we are going to be at Nate's all evening, please have your rides pick you up at 10:00. We will continue to let you know what time to be picked up each Friday.

Sooooooo....what do you need to bring? anything you want to roast....be creative if you want. veggies, marshmallows, hot dogs, steak, pie irons, whatever, as long as it is tasty, and has NO NUTS!!! (and for all of you who are still overwhelmed with anticipation of what Nate's pond might hold for the winter, you can bring your skates if it will make you feel better). Bring warm clothes and a lawn chair if you can. See you Friday!

Youth Tonight

Hey Everyone

I know it has seemed like a mystery as to whether or not there is youth tonight, but yes, indeed there is youth! "GNIC" has planned something for tonight. I'm a little foggy on the details but I know the focus is going to be on prayer. Come to church for 7:30 and we'll be heading to the Voogt's afterwards. You can have your rides pick you up from there at 11:00.

Jevuntud Esta Semana

"Juventud esta semana". If you're going to Guatemala, you'll know what that means. For those impaired, "look forward to some pond hockey/skating". If the weather is insufficient then stay posted, but otherwise bring your skates, stick and warm clothes to church this friday. After that we will proceed to Brad's house for some refreshment and socializing. Have your rides pick you up from Brads at 11:00 (280 Niven Road).

Changing Plans!

Woah! Hold your horses all you bowling people. There's a new plan. It looks like rather than being all seventies at the lanes, we're going to have a guitar hero 3 night...but still with the retro theme. So come dressed as a '70's rock star and prepare to melt some faces! Stay tuned for where to be picked up...perhaps a house..imagine that.

Brilliant Bowling Bash

Polish your ball and tie up those laces...it's bowling time! As per our usual, we will be meeting at church at 7:30. From there we will be heading to Value Village to outfit ourselves for a brilliant night of bowling. If you'd rather not purchase an outfit from Value Village, raid your parents closets and wear "retro". Please bring some money so that you are able to purchase your value village outfit and please bring $5 for bowling.

We will be back at the church by 11:00 and you can have your rides pick you up from there. See you Friday!

The Greatest Stories Ever Told

Well, it's been a while, but worth the wait. We had a great retreat. Keep checking here and on Facebook for pics and videos (hopefully not sideways videos thanks to Brad).

This Friday will test your creative and theatrical skills as we all become part of the GREATEST STORIES EVER TOLD. All you need to bring is your creative juices (in whatever flavour you choose), and some energy. Also, if anyone has video cameras, or cameras that take videos, could you bring them, and let us know that you've got one. Let us know on the blog or facebook if you have a video camera. Stay posted as to who's house we'll be going to after. See you Friday.

ps. if anyone still owes money for retreat, christmas banquet(s), hay ride, bbq, guatamala, etc., please bring it!!!
